This installment shows the crew preparing for and shooting on location. It’s astounding the number of people and trucks it takes! As with all the videos so far, it just makes us anticipate the movie(s) even more.

One and Only, by Gerald Nicosia and Anne Marie Santos,  tells the story of Lu Anne Henderson, the woman who started Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady on the trip that inspired the book.

Eating with the Enemy

Patrick M. Healy will write the screenplay for HBO’s adaptation of Eating with the Enemy, by Robert Egan and Kurt Pitzer. The book tells Egan’s true story of acting as a freelance diplomat with North Korea from his BBQ restaurant in Hackensack, NJ. James Gandolfini is set to star as Egan.

Fun facts from the video:
Andy Serkis, who performed the voice and movement for Gollum in the Lord of the Rings films, is the second-unit director for The Hobbit.

And it was great to see that John Howe is part of the location scouting team for the next part of filming. Howe is the artist who created the illustrations we used on our packaging for our audio editions of  The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, as well as an original painting he made for our set combining The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit.

It’s a long wait till December of 2012!

The original movie was released in France in 2009, and an English subtitled version came out in 2010. It doesn’t seem to have had a wide US release, given how popular the book was here. It came and went before we all had a chance to trek down to a theater to see it.

We’ve posted the trailer below, but it’s in French. Translation, anyone?

The first film is called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and will open on December 14, 2012. The second film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again is scheduled to open on December 13, 2013.

Based on that news, the release date for Ang Lee’s film adaptation of Life of Pi has shifted back a week, to December 21, 2012, the better to take advantage of holiday moviegoing crowds, as well as getting out of the Hobbit’s way.

In other Hobbit news, Orlando Bloom, a veteran of the Lord of the Rings films, is set to return as Legolas in The Hobbit. Legolas doesn’t actually appear in the book, but Peter Jackson knows what he’s doing, right?

Maguire will play a reporter interviewing the adult Pi (played by Irrfan Khan) about being shipwrecked as a 16-year old (played by Suraj Sharma). Filming is currently underway in India.
